Xeriscape does not mean zero landscape [Xeros is Greek for "dry"]. It refers to landscaping in ways that do not require supplemental irrigation. Its primary objective is to maximize water conservation.Xeriscape landscape incorporates native plant species that are adapted to local climate conditions.
Some common plants used in xeriscaping are agave, cactus, lavender, juniper, sedum and thyme.
Some common xeriscape advantages include:
- lower water bills
- more water available for other uses
- little or no lawn mowing
- ability to survive in harsh conditions such as limitation of water
